YouTube Favorites #5: Technology Connections

Technology Connections is not a usual tech channel. It’s not only about electronics and computers, it’s about all technologies; it’s about everyday appliances old and new. The host—Alec Watson—talks about the use and mechanics of everything from dishwashers, ceiling fans, freezers, heaters, to pinball machines, and more.

The channel’s production quality is impressive. Unlike YouTubers that rely primarily on stock footage, Alec shoots almost all the footage himself. He goes above and beyond to make his subjects understandable. Technology Connections is educational and practical. I learned a lot from it, and some of this knowledge was directly applicable in my daily life. My favorite episode is the one about dishwashers; it contains all the practical information one needs on how to use them effectively.

Seeing how simple and yet clever some of our daily technology is makes it exciting and fun. Alec’s dry humor and his passion make me want to learn more about everyday appliances and electronics; he makes complicated topics accessible to a general audience and makes mundane objects exciting.
